The labyrinth Burmese python (pattern morph) This is a simple recessive genetic trait that affects the overall pattern of the python in exactly the same manner as the green or patternless trait. Below is a picture of the female (pictured above) ovulating (I blacked out the newspaper because it was a bit to bright). Pictured (below left) is her first clutch, she produced 31 fertile eggs and 2 "duds". This was an unusually large clutch for her first breeding at only 3 meters. Some of the eggs were possibly damaged during removal and died. Two of these dead eggs were cut away for inspection (they contained appropriately sized embryos) and the rest were left stuck to the clutch to shrivel and dry (pictured above right). These are the babies 100% heterozygous for Labyrinth. The pattern of the entire clutch is slightly more aberrant than that of a normal Burmese with thinner yellow lines and more chaotically joined brown blotches. for availability just e-mail me gavin@boasandpythons.co.za |
