Well kept captive boids don't seem to suffer too many illnesses and most respond well to treatment with the exception being Inclusion Body Disease or IBD for short. Although the treatment of most reptile illnesses is quite simple and straight forward I highly recommend that sick boids be taken to a reptile vet promptly if you do not have the experience or expertise. Most bacterial boid illnesses are generally brought on by bad husbandry practices that lead to excessive amounts of bacteria in the cage......... or by less than optimal (too low) temperatures that result in an ineffective immune system. Seeking and solving the cause is essential and antibiotic treatment may be necessary. Viral illnesses, although less common, can be airborne, waterborne or spread by direct contact with other snakes or from their keepers contact with other snakes. These tend to clear up on their own and treatment is symptomatic. The exception is IBD, a retrovirus which every keeper of boids should know about and be ever vigilant for.
I haven't finished all the other sub-pages yet but there are a few that have a nice links in them. |
