Hatchlings are very prone to dehydration until their first shed. I prefer to keep my hatchlings in the incubator where they will continue to receive constant temperatures and humidity. After their first shed I then take them out of the incubator, separate them and begin offering them food on a regular basis. Some take as long as two months before taking their first meal. The time it takes for them to be hungry enough to eat depends on how much yolk they absorbed before hatching. Excessive handling before their first meal can also slow the process down. |
